Head of Safeguarding

Our client is looking for an experienced Head of Safeguarding to join their team on a contract up until the end of July 2024.

Your day to day responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in Adult Safeguarding, ensuring compliance with national statutes, regulations, and safeguarding standards
  • Foster clear communication between schools and families directorate
  • Deliver qualitative and quantitative data for performance assessment and improvement, comparing results with local, regional, and national benchmarks
  • Identify and address areas of weak practice, knowledge, and understanding, advising on improvement strategies
  • Participate in safeguarding activities, including chairing sub-groups
  • Provide training and presentations to staff and partner agencies
  • Offer specialist supervision to Safeguarding Advisors at the locality level
  • Understand and apply the duties for safeguarding adults, crime prevention, and safeguarding children and young people
Core Competencies:

  • Coordinate and support service planning for high-quality, value-for-money services in line with statutory requirements
  • Recommend policy and practice improvements, collaborating with stakeholders for effective implementation
  • Provide professional leadership, fostering a culture of standards, performance, and accountability
  • Offer expert advice in legislation and quality improvement with a county-wide focus
  • Maintain effective budgetary control and ensure legal, regulatory, and policy compliance
  • Lead major programs and represent the business area in internal and external initiatives
  • Drive transformational change, embedding new ways of working for high-quality service delivery and efficiency
  • Foster collaboration internally and externally for sustainable service improvements and efficiencies
  • Be on-call to maintain key service delivery and respond to serious incidents
Ideal Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification with management experience in a complex business environment
  • Authoritative understanding of relevant legislation, practice standards, and sector/commercial awareness
  • Strong interpretive and constructive thinking, evaluative judgment, and change management skills
  • Balance policy development with effective operational management
  • Advanced skills in inspiring, motivating, coaching, and developing high-performance teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively
  • Assess risks and benefits, responding appropriately
  • Continued professional development and current Social Work England registration
  • Leadership and management experience at a senior level
