At Sammons we’re passionate about nurturing emerging talent through meaningful work experience in recruitment. As part of this commitment, this year we welcomed Joe Price to our Hastings office for a work placement opportunity.
Joe joined us in June and quickly became a valued member of the team. His placement offered hands-on exposure to the recruitment sector, strengthened his technical skills, and contributed directly to the efficiency of our operations. His calm, composed approach and positive attitude brought energy and reliability to each task he undertook.
We’re proud to work closely with local education providers across East Sussex and Surrey to create real-world learning experiences like Joe’s. His contribution during this work experience in recruitment was fantastic, particularly in improving CRM data quality and supporting administrative workflows.

As Joe completes his placement, we asked him to reflect on his experience:
1. How has your placement at Sammons Recruitment Group helped you develop professionally?
“My placement at Sammons has really helped me grow professionally. I’ve strengthened my digital skills, especially with Microsoft Office, where I’ve learned useful shortcuts and more efficient ways of working. I’ve also developed a clearer and more effective communication style, and I’ve become much better at managing my time and prioritising tasks. Overall, the experience has made me more confident and capable in a professional environment.”
2. What has been the biggest personal breakthrough or confidence boost you’ve gained from this experience?
“My biggest confidence boost has come from how quickly I was able to learn and navigate the CRM system, and seeing the positive impact this has had on the team at Sammons. Before I started, I wasn’t very confident in my abilities, but mastering the system so fast has shown me what I’m capable of and has really strengthened my self belief.”
3. What workplace insight or lesson will you take forward into your next steps?
“A key lesson I’ll take forward is the importance of prioritisation. It wasn’t something I had really considered before, but now I understand how much of a difference it makes. I’ve learned how to schedule my time more effectively, which has helped me both at work and in my day-to-day life. This is something I’ll continue to use throughout my career.”
4. Which technical or administrative skills did you apply most during your placement?
“The skills I used most during my placement were my organisational abilities and learning to use email efficiently. This wasn’t something I had much experience with during my course, so developing these skills has been valuable. It’s helped me understand how to stay professional in day to day tasks.”
5. How has this placement influenced your understanding of the industry?
“At the start of my placement, I didn’t know much about the recruitment industry, but I now have a much clearer understanding of how the whole process works. I’ve learned what happens from a recruiter’s perspective as well as how hiring managers manage their side of the process. This insight will really help me when I look for my next step, as I can use what I’ve learned to improve my interview skills and increase my chances of securing a role.”
6. What key qualities or skills have you learned from working with the Sammons team, and how will they influence your future goals?
“I’ve developed my communication skills the most being in person, over the phone and email. Each team member has shared tips on how to be professional while also offering guidance when I make mistakes, reminding me that it’s okay to do so and how to learn from them. This will be something I remember throughout my career. In Mark’s words “every day is a learning day”. There’s been a great balance between learning, gaining office etiquette, and enjoying a positive working environment. I’ve really valued my time with the team learning a lot and will miss working with them.”
Joe’s experience highlights the value of structured work experience in recruitment, for both the individual and the business. His time with Sammons has helped him build confidence, gain technical experience, and grow into a capable young professional.
We wish Joe all the very best in his future endeavours and thank him for the enthusiasm and positive energy he brought to the Hastings office and wider Group.
